During World War II, the Queen’s York Rangers served as a reserve unit and contributed personnel to active Canadian forces, though they were not deployed overseas as a full regiment.
In 1936, the regiment was renamed The Queen’s York Rangers (1st American Regiment) (Machine Gun). During WWII, it was designated the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion from 1942 to 1944, and then simply the Reserve Regiment until the war’s end. The unit remained in Canada, training soldiers and supporting mobilization efforts
